The Render Study

The render study is a result of comparing different 3D/rendering tools... It all started innocently.

The original model was a (never-built) extension to a small single-family house. The design was made by Kristof Stuyck & myself. The model was modeled in ArchiCAD 6.0 r5 on a PIII-600 w.128MB RAM running both Windows 2000 & 98SE and then translated to several other formats (mostly using the ArchiCAD-conversions).

After doing some test renderings, this all got a bit out of control... I tested more software, some people donated new renderings and I also learned more and more, so I could update some of the renderings.

This is not the "WHAT IS THE BEST RENDERER?"-competition, but it is a way of showing how different applications could handle the same model in different ways.

Notice: The model is free for rendering & compatibility comparisons, but can't be used for any other (possibly commercial) purposes. I encourage others to try the model with their own renderer and send me the results to enlarge the database. I also allow them to post the results on their own pages, but only when they clearly add a reference to this site and state that the model isn't theirs! Fair is fair...
If you have tips & tricks to add to the conversion information, let me know.
